Safety and Security Officer

At Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg, VA .

Monday through Friday, the Security staff works three shifts, 0600-1430, 1400-2230, and 2200-0630.

Over the weekends, there is some part-time staff who are available only for certain times, so there may be a 12-hour and a 4-hour shift.

New hires are asked to be flexible to start and to move to a regular schedule.

Schedules are set to match the two-week pay period, with most Officers working part of their 40 hours on alternate weekends.



    As aSecurity Officer with Sentara, you will ensure a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees. This position's primary duties include actively patrolling campuses and monitoring activity in and around buildings and responding appropriately to both routine and emergent situations. You will also document daily activities via computer, conduct investigations, evaluate situations, and take appropriate steps for resolution.     Job Requirements:
    • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • One year of security experience
    • Valid Drivers License
    • De-escalation and Physical Intervention training completed within 180 days of hire. Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) must be successfully obtained within 90 days of hire. Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.

    Job Summary

    The Safety and Security Officer monitors buildings and grounds through patrols and, if applicable, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance to ensure the safety and security of staff, patients, visitors, etc. and to prevent violence, theft or infraction of rules. This individual responds to fires and other emergencies, conducts and documents investigations of accidents, thefts, and other unusual occurrences, maintains departmental logs and records in addition to providing assistance as assigned.

    Complete de-escalation training within 3 months of hire. Safety and Security Officers work in hospital, clinical, business office and/or corporate office settings.
